Omaha Hold'em Rules
Omaha Hold'em is a poker game similar to Texas Hold'em; the biggest difference is that players have nine cards to use rather than seven cards. In Omaha Hold'em Poker a player must use two of hole cards and three of the community cards to make their best five card hand. This is unlike Texas Hold'em Poker where there are no restrictions on the cards you can use, indeed a player can use all five community cards, and this difference is the most common mistake players used to Texas Hold'em make when starting to play Omaha Hold'em.

How to play a game of Omaha Hold'em:

  1. First thing, before the dealer deals any cards, the two blinds must be posted. The player directly to the left of the dealer posts the 'Small Blind' and the player to the left of that player posts the 'Big Blind'. The Big Blind is set at half of the table limit (so it would be $2 on a $2/$4 table), and the Small Blind is set at half of the big blind.
  2. After the blinds are posted each player is dealt four face-down cards (their 'hole' cards).
  3. A round of betting takes place, the betting starts with the player to the left of the player who placed the "Big Blind" bet.
  4. With the betting round over the dealer deals 'The Flop', three cards dealt face up and placed in the centre of the table so that all the players may use them (the first of the community cards).
  5. Another round of betting takes place.
  6. After this round of betting the dealer deals 'The Turn', a forth card dealt face up and added to the community cards in the middle of the table.
  7. Another round of betting takes place.
  8. After this round of betting the dealer deals 'The River' (the last card that will be dealt), a fifth card dealt face up and added to the community cards in the middle of the table.
  9. The final round of betting takes place.

Omaha Hold'em Poker gives every player nine cards to choose among (five community cards and four hole cards) however a player can only use five of the nine to make their best hand. Also, a player must use two of their hole cards and three community cards when making their final five card hand. As in most poker games the person who makes the best five card hand wins the pot.
